Furniture Restoration Short Course (#6) – Hikaru.I

This week we started restoring the mirror stand! The teacher found this mirror stand for the class! First, we cleaned the mirror. It was very dirty, but I sprayed it with alcohol and wiped it down and it shined up in no time! He says that working in furniture restoration makes him good at cleaning. He also taught us how to remove stains from the wood! The basic method is to use a chemical called oxalic acid, but if that doesn’t remove the stain, he uses a stronger chemical. I thought it was difficult because not only the stain but also the color of the wood would soon be removed. We also painted the pillars, and I was very happy with how well it turned out! I am very much looking forward to the next class where we will complete the project!
