Graphic Design 9-One Year Course 2017
The self-appraisal leaflet (it’s called “brochure”) takes shape. Talking with professor Veronica, I modify it and print it out.
I find new points to improve on such as color difference between the one displayed on the screen and the actual printed ones, or differences in letters.
I will try my best to accomplish this task.
Recently I get lucky enough to watch Professor Veronica’s work from behind (She is not aware of that).
Lately she seems to be designing a dress on Photoshop. Truly professional.
I get inspired to actively learn many things such as coloration in addition to the fast work speed.
Today we went to an archaeological museum for Art Visit. We could see Italian artifacts and also relics excavated in Egypt.
There was a group from another local school.
To be provided by the school the opportunities to learn about history in the town naturally gets us interested in the relics and culture.
These are pots displayed in the Egyptian exhibition room. Firstly I would think “how cute, I’d love to have these as interior decoration.”
But actually these are “Canopus pots” used to store internal organs such as hearts.
Each pot has meanings. The jackal on the left is Duamutef, the god who protects the stomach; the one on the right is Qebehsenuef guards the intestine.
This is a coffin that houses a mummy.
The ancient Egyptian civilization is said to have flourished through 30 dynasties, from the unification of the lower Egypt in 3000 BCE to the 4th century BCE.
By the way, at this time it was the Jomon Period in Japan, with huge settlements such as Sannai Maruyama ruins starting to appear.
I’m surprised how advanced the ancient Egyptians’ technical capabilities were; they were making mummies when our ancestors were turning to chestnut farming from acorn farming.
This is a gelato shop that I visited with a friend. This small but famous shop is located across the street from the Ponte Vecchio.
Despite the cheap price you can enjoy their delicious homemade gelato. There are unusual flavors that you cannot find in ordinary Gelato shops.
Our goal is to try out all flavors. The price difference between gelato shops in Florence is big (anywhere between 2 euros to 12 euros), so you should choose with care.
If you want to walk around in Florence and for the overview of the city, I recommend Michelangelo square.
At dusk many tourists gather here to see the sunset. The weather was nice on this day, and the sunset was very beautiful.
Unintentionally, I had my camera pointed towards the statue of David and accidentally took a picture of it, which resulted in a pleasant surprise. The silhouette against the setting sun made a very nice picture. Personally, in my Japanese eyes, it looked like a person on the way home from a Japanese public bath.
This is a bar in Michelangelo Square. This bar is also listed in the guide book, and you can sit on the terrace and enjoy the view of Florence through Michelangelo Square.
Many people came to drink coffee from the crowded square. Sweets and coffee are also delicious, hence the popularity.
This is a pizza restaurant that I visited with a friend. Every shop in the city is really in style.
They maintain specific themes and philosophy, and put much care to also small items. It is fun to eat in such places.
Especially, there are many designs that women like.
Speaking of Florence, we have to mention leather goods. You can find anything with cheap price, from classical design to the most modern of designs.
I went shopping with my friend who is taking a short-term course and together we made many nice discoveries.
This bag is my favorite. Of course it is made of Florentine leather. There is a workshop in the shop, and you can observe from outside.
Negotiating with the shop owner repeatedly, I reduced the price to the limit.
