Bag Making Summer Course (#11) – Yang Guk HONG
My hand sewing teacher took me to a leather tannery. I was able to see the whole process from the fur to the leather we use in our daily life.
The tannery keeps the leather in a big refrigerator during the summer and leaves it outside during the winter because it rots.
It was a great experience for me as there is a lot of manual work involved.
手縫いの先生に革のなめし工場に連れて行ってもらいました。毛皮のある状態から普段使ってる革になるまでの工程をすべて見ることが出来ました。
夏は革が腐ってしまうため大きな冷蔵庫に入れて、冬は外に置いとくそうです。
意外と手作業が多くいい体験が出来ました。

Everything about hand sewing is more time consuming than sewing machines and it is difficult to make progress, but once you get used to it, it is fun and I like the feeling of making something by myself better than with a sewing machine.
I thought it was the beauty of hand-sewing that all the processes are done by hand and you can use various kinds of thick leather.
With only one week left until summer vacation, I hope to enjoy learning.
手縫いの方は全てのことがミシンよりも時間がかかりなかなか前に進まないですが、慣れてくると楽しく、ミシンよりも自分で作ってる感じがして好きです。
全ての工程が手作業で分厚く色々な革を使えるのが手縫いの良さだと思いました。
夏休みまで残り1週間、楽しく学びたいと思います。
