Graphic Design & Illustration Short Course (#04) – Roanne D.

This is my last week of class. We studied a variety of printable paper and where it might be used.

I was given my next task which is to choose an animal and draw it applying the Fibonacci sequence. I’m not sure I made this one correctly, but I chose the blue ringed octopus. It is one of the deadliest animals in the ocean. I chose it because of its spots and eight legs, I was thinking with its eight legs there would be opportunity to apply a balanced look of swirls on my illustration.

My final project is to create a fantasy world and character. I took some time to conceptualize on what to make. I eventually decided on designing an Orchid Dragon Character with a child riding its back. I also made an orchid kingdom where these Dragons reside.

This was made into a poster with a title.

The Dragon is inspired by the phalaenopsis orchid variety, a combination of white and magenta. The dragon’s scales are made into flower petals. The kingdom probably needs more conceptualizing, but it is a floating land where the dragons live. At first, I used the Komodo dragon as reference, but I eventually changed the dragon head’s shape. I made this in two days.

In my last day I was handed my Illustration Certificate and bid my goodbye. I am so grateful for my time here and I’m glad about what I was able to accomplish during my stay here in Accademia Riaci.
