CERAMIC – Florentine Manufactures 1880-1920 – Cains Brown Collection, representing Florentine ceramics made between 19th to 20th centuries, is open for viewing starting from April 15th through July 15th, at the exhibition space of the Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze. This collection of Bruno Cains River is curated by Anita Valentini together with the collector’s daughter, Marina Smeralda Cains River. From 6 major manufacturers of ceramics in Florence (Ginori, Cantagalli, Fantechi, Salvini, Company a Colonnata and Ceramic pottery-kilns of San Lorenzo di Galileo Chini), 140 items from his collection are exposed for the first time to the public.
Many ceramics inherit their shapes and decorations from the great Italian Renaissance tradition (such as Raphae,l Della Robbia and Urbino), and at the same time others adopt modern European style in their nature patterns or complicated liberty patterns. This collection offers you a great opportunity to enjoy and learn about ceramics in a casual atmosphere, and provides you with a significant key to understand the history and life in this era in Florence that was the capital city of Italy back then.
