Furniture Design One-Year Course (#2) – K T Truong

My second week in Florence has passed and I’m getting used to the life here. The exciting feeling still remains in me since there’re many places, many things, many foods I have to experience.
Furniture Design blog My shelf-designed project nearly finished this week after trying so many ideas. I came up with the idea using fence shape for the book holder as I wanted it to have a twist of classic among the neat shape to create the contrast.
Furniture Design blog My teacher liked the idea and he helped me develop it. We kind of satisfied with the result shape therefore I was on my way to make many options for the materials. I was going to check with him next week and he might explain to me the characteristic of the materials, that would be so great.
Furniture Design blog In my Bic pen drawing class this week, my teacher had compliments on my work and that made me happy. She was very nice to introduce me beautiful places in Italy I should visit like Venezia, Siena, Arezzo, Napoli and Sicilia, etc. Beside that she also wrote me delicious Tuscany restaurant in Florence!
Furniture Design blog Follow her recommendation, I had my first ever pizza since I arrived to Italy at L’antica pizzeria da Michele Firenze, a famous pizza restaurant near Mercato Centrale. The pizza was absolutely delicious that I still remember the flavour when writing about it!
Furniture Design blog This week’s art visit we explored the famous and important squares in Florence – Piazza della Repubblica. This square was a market and a meeting place for the famous artists back then which leaded to some coffee shops keep on working till today: Caffè Gilli, Caffè Giubbe Rosse, etc
Furniture Design blog We were next introduced to the famous building represented the beautiful Renaissance architectural – Palazzo Strozzi with impressive façade having sculptured stone blocks gradually decreased from bottom to top.
Furniture Design blog During the weekend, I had a small journey around Florence with my Japanese friend. We arrived to Piazzale Michelangelo early to watch the Duomo covered by sun light and it was wonderful!
Furniture Design blog We took a little walk down the hill after watching the view and we found a fragrance place – Giardino delle Rose. Lovely place with colorful roses and each kind just had different aroma. The mild sun, the green grass together with the gorgeous aromatic roses, I wished I could lay down and enjoy the atmosphere.
Furniture Design blog Next up, she showed me the special place she wanted to visit and we headed there. The oldest pharmacy – Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. We were overwhelmed by the interior, so gorgeous and classical. They had all kind of products first made in hundred years ago, how amazing it was! This place not only a pharmacy but also a museum in my opinion.
Furniture Design blog Last destination, we gifted ourselfs with gelatos and we had them at Sbrino – Gelatificio Contadino. The authentic gelatos were contained in metal vessels, we picked the size and choosed the flavours. I had Mascarpone and Pistacchio, the Pistacchio was such a vedette!
