Furniture Making & Restoration vol.6 (One-Year Course – Jioh)
Once the animal glue on inlay plates has been complete dried off, you will witness the gaps in between the positive and negative space. To mend the gaps in between, mix gesso powder with color powder to resemble the color of wood. Mix the powder together with drops of animal glue. Once the mix is in the right consistency, apply the mix on flower plates.
For the vase inlay, we used the stucco to mend the gap.
Let it dry over the night and once all the stuccos are dried, use sandpaper to clean the surface. Always pay attention not to scratch the plate with the sandpaper.
Due to my mistake of applying too much stucco on the vase inlay plates, I needed to use the sandpaper machine to clean the surface.
Use alcohol to clean off all the excessive of dust.
The finishing process, use the gommalacca as finishing solution. First, tap the plates gently with a sack with volcano rock dust to fill in the micro dents on wood plates. Use knit piece of fabric and wrap around with a piece of cotton fabric. The gommalacca gets liquified with alcohol and base of the concentration base the thickness. In a plastic bottle, gommalacca mix is ready to use. Squeeze decent amount of gommalacca on the tampon to soak the fabric. To wax the plate, the arm consists in circular motions with the controlled strength.
Evenly wax the plates one at a time, more time as you would invest in waxing, it will show in the result.
