Period: Oct. 7, 2024 – Nov. 8, 2024

I am a Fine Arts graduate from the University of the Philippines Diliman, I majored in Visual Communication from the College of Fine Arts. I previously worked as an artist for a Publishing House in the Philippines. In my free time I draw and practice digital illustrations or digital paintings. I’m here in Firenze to learn and explore the similarities and differences in illustration and design between the Philippines and Italy. I am fortunate enough to have won a place in the International Art and Design Competition of Accademia Riaci in 2023 and the prize is to study here for 4 weeks. I am grateful for the academy and for an opportunity to be in Florence, Italy for the first time. I am also enjoying the city’s many museums and galleries, the food, people and the new things I’m encountering during my stay.

We then proceeded with the next project which was to create postcards!

I spend some time conceptualizing ideas for my postcards. I will be making 4 designs.
My task was to choose from the different photos I have on my phone which was around Firenze and add illustrations to it.

My first idea was the Dante death mask from the Museo Palazzo Vecchio. I basically left the mask as is, but would illustrate the rest of the body to bring Dante to life. Also depicting elements that showed his works.

My second concept is the Firenze Arno river, I probably would draw people competing in the Canottierie race where the river is like wine, and a huge Fiasco wine bottle would pour wine into the river transforming it red.

My third photo would be from one of the Uffizi paintings of a portrait of Isabella Brandt by Pieter Pau Rubens. I decided to turn her into a pigeon and add other pigeons looking at the painting.

My fourth photo would be of the David. The photo is from a worms view where it also shows the circular glass ceiling that is round and is divided into 8, like a pizza, which I will turn it into, and it also has an arch where I could place the text “David’s Pizzeria”. I would also give the David an apron.

These are my four concepts for now.

I actually started with my third concept. So I painted over my photo of Isabella Brant, turning her into a pigeon. Then I added 2 other pigeons gazing at the painting.

I then proceeded to the concept that turns the Arno river into wine.
