I am a 2nd year graduate student at Kyoto Institute of Technology.
I am studying architecture in Japan. In my university assignments, I am limited to designing only basic floor plans and rarely think about furniture and materials. However, it is necessary to design a concrete living space, and I have always wanted to learn how to do so. Architecture and furniture are inseparable when it comes to space creation. I chose the interior design course because I wanted to learn as much as I could about this.

How to spend time after school
I was designing a bookshelf for my interior design class, and I was told about a great place to work on it after school. It’s called “Cinema Odeon” and it’s a combination movie theater and bookstore. It is about a 5 minute walk from Riachi. There is WiFi and power outlets.

The Boboli Garden
On the south side of the Arno River, next to the Pitti Palace, there is a large garden. It is on the top of a hill, so you can see the whole city of Florence. It costs 10€ to enter, and I inevitably compare it to the Kyoto Botanical Garden, which costs 200€ for adults, and I faints in agony at the height. But it was a great time to eat sweets while looking down on Florence. From the side, I could hear the Italian version of the birthday song being sung.

Burrata
This is a picture of the burrata I had at “Trattoria Palle D’Oro dal 1860” after school. In Japan, it costs about 3,000 yen, but in Italy, it costs only 12€ (1,800 yen) even if you eat it at a restaurant. Moreover, it contains truffles! If you buy it at a supermarket, it is even cheaper.

Uffizi Gallery
I went to the Uffizi Gallery after school and took these pictures. It costs 29€ if you make a reservation, and 25€ if you go directly to the museum, so I went there directly to see if I could get in. I was lucky to get in, but there were really too many people. And what surprised me was the number of works. There were many works that I had seen in textbooks or on TV. It took me 3 hours even though I was a little bit slow. However, I am glad I came because the arrangement of the exhibition rooms and everything was very different from that of Japanese museums. (Photo 5) is a photo looking up the corridor. There are detailed paintings even in such a place. Is this really an exhibit or an architecture?
The entire museum was so artistic that there was no such boundary.

Classroom
The teacher is showing us a catalog of window sashes.
Whenever I asked him a question about Italian furniture or architecture, he would quite often bring a sample from the back of the room.

Outside of Florence
About an hour from Santa Maria Novella station, we went to a place called “Lignano Sullarno,” about 30 km from Florence’s central district.
After being in the central tourist area for so long, I was interested in the surrounding houses and countryside. The houses that lined the quiet streets were so much richer at the entrance than those in the city. The entrances are also furnished with flowerpots, laundry, tables and chairs, etc., as if there is plenty of land to spare. I am sorry for taking pictures without permission, but the entrance and windowsills, which seem to show a part of their daily life, are very smiling.

San Gimignano
About 2 hours south of Florence by bus, there is a town called San Gimignano. It is famous for its white wine, with vineyards spreading all around. I had a glass of white wine there. It is unbelievably delicious.
If you turn away from the main street, which is lined with stores for tourists, you will find a quiet street lined with houses. I don’t know what they are for, but there are arch tunnels here and there, like the one in (Photo 10). It was an interesting and lively stroll through the city.

Last Supper
On the eve of my return to Florence, I had dinner with my classmates, Mr. Y and Mr. T. This is an Italian restaurant that Mr. T chose for us. They are the people who have taught me a lot about Florence, such as always telling me about places they recommend. I am sad to say goodbye, but I met such wonderful people that I will definitely see them again.
I hugged them both and said goodbye. It was a great last night. I am sad, but I will be able to go back to Japan with my eyes full of vitality. Until we meet again, Ciao!

Ciao!
