I finished my second piece in the Jewelry Making class! It is a grape leaf pendant top made of silver. Unlike the first ring, it took a little longer because of the welding between the parts. In the process of polishing the surface and welding surface with a file, the teacher did not give the OK until even the smallest scratch was gone, which showed his high level of professionalism.

Jewelry Makingの授業で2個目の作品が完成しました！シルバーを使ったぶどうの葉のペンダントトップです。初回の指輪とは異なり、パーツ同士の溶接があったので、少し時間がかかりました。やすりで表面や溶接面を磨く作業では、細かい傷もなくなるまで先生のOKが出ず、プロ意識の高さを感じました。

On to the third piece of work, earrings. Previously, we had been working with prepared designs, but I wanted to try making my own original designs, so I brought my own design ideas. I was happy to be able to make use of what I learned in the Jewely Design class.

3つ目の作品のピアス制作へ。前回までは用意されたデザインで制作していましたが、オリジナルで作ってみたいと思い、デザイン案を持参しました。野菜をモチーフにした3案デザインし、その中から枝豆のデザインで作ることに。Jewely Designの授業の学びも活かすことができて嬉しかったです。

Cutting a silver plate with a thread saw. When cutting curves and corners, the blade of the thread saw is easy to break, so we cut carefully. Even so, I broke the blade several times… I still need more practice.

シルバーの板を糸鋸で切る作業。曲線や角を切る際には、糸鋸の刃が折れやすいので、慎重に切ります。それでも何回か刃を折ってしまいました…。まだまだ練習が必要です。

To process unevenness on the cut parts, the parts are heated and embedded in a stand. This tool is probably called a “yani-dai” in Japanese, which softens when heated and hardens when cooled. In this state, the parts are hammered out using a hammer or a tugger to make the parts uneven.

切ったパーツに凹凸をつける加工をするために、パーツを熱して台に埋め込みます。日本語ではおそらく「ヤニ台」と呼ばれる道具で、熱すると柔らかくなり、冷めると固くなります。この状態でタガネやハンマーを使って打ち出し加工を施し、パーツに凹凸をつけます。

The unevenness of the part has been created. The design is now as I had envisioned, and it looks like edamame (green soybeans)! In the next class, we will polish it further and weld round wires to make earrings. Since there are only a few classes left, I will be happy if I can finish the earrings and create another piece of work in the next class.

パーツに凹凸を施しました。思い描いていたデザイン通りの凹凸がつき、枝豆らしくなりました！次の授業ではさらに磨いて、ピアスにするための丸線を溶接します。残りの授業が少ないので、次回でピアスを仕上げて、もう一つ作品が作れたら嬉しいです。

Jewelry design class. in the third class, we learned how to add color. We started by practicing drawing “cabochon” stones, which are not intricately cut. In order to express the three-dimensionality, brilliance and transparency of the material, different colors of colored pencils were applied in layers. In the next class, they will learn how to draw more complicated cut stones.

ジュエリーデザインの授業。3回目の授業では色の付け方を学びました。まずは、複雑なカットの施されていない「カボション」のストーンを描く練習から。立体感や素材の輝き・透明感を表現するために、異なる色の色鉛筆を塗り重ねます。次回の授業では、もう少し複雑なカットの施されたストーンを描く方法を学ぶようです。

After class, we often stroll around the city and can walk farther and farther. Beyond the Ponte Vecchio and over the river, there is a hill and a garden. The photo shows the central area of Florence as seen from the Bardini Gardens. The city center is noisy with many tourists, so I was healed by the quietness of the garden.

授業後は街を散策することが多く、だんだん遠くまで歩けるようになりました。ヴェッキオ橋を超えて川の向こうまで行くと、丘になっていて庭園が広がっています。写真は、バルディニ庭園から眺めたフィレンツェの中心街。中心街は観光客が多く騒がしいので、庭園の静けさに癒されました。

Cherry blossoms were in bloom on the way to the garden. On the roadside, there were many wild flowers, such as violets and goldenrods, which are the same as in spring in Japan, and I felt the arrival of spring. By the way, pollen is also flying in Italy, so hay fever sufferers should be careful.

庭園に行く途中で桜が咲いていました。道端には、スミレやオオイヌノフグリなど、日本の春と同じ野花がたくさん咲いていて、春の訪れを感じました。ちなみにイタリアにも花粉が飛んでいて、花粉症の人は要注意です。

There are many churches in Florence that are not famous as tourist attractions. The photo is the Church of Santissima Annunziata. The exterior is simple, but once inside, it was much larger than expected and beautifully decorated with very gorgeous ornaments. Each church has its own unique interior design, and it is quieter and calmer than a museum. Prohibitions on taking pictures, speaking out loud, eating and drinking must be checked at the entrance of each church.

フィレンツェの街には、観光地としては有名でない教会もたくさんあります。写真は、サンティッシマ・アンヌンツィアータ教会です。外観はシンプルですが、中に入ると予想以上に広く、とても華やかな装飾が美しかったです。教会によって内装の作りに個性があり、美術館よりも静かで落ち着いて見られるのが良いです。写真撮影や声出し、飲食などの禁止事項は、それぞれの教会の入り口で確認する必要があります。

Sushi at the supermarket. 40% discount was 6.99 euro. It was expensive, but I missed Japanese food so much that I couldn’t resist. Japanese ingredients such as soy sauce and nori are sold in Italy, but they are very expensive. Also, if you want to make Japanese food at home, I recommend you to bring granulated dashi (Japanese soup stock)!

スーパーのお寿司。40％割引で6.99ユーロでした。高いですが、日本食が恋しくて我慢できませんでした。醤油やのりなどの日本の食材はイタリアでも売っていますが、とても高いです。また、家で和食を作りたい方は、顆粒だしを持ってくることをおすすめします！
