Cutting out a brass plate with a thread saw to make a dragonfly shape. I got a little used to it and was able to proceed with the cutting without breaking the blade too much. For the last class, we decided to make bee and dragonfly rings out of brass.

真鍮の板を糸鋸で切り出してトンボの形を作っている様子。少し慣れてきて、あまり刃を折らずに切り進めることができました。最後の授業では、真鍮を使って蜂とトンボの指輪を作ることにしました。

Here are the bee and dragonfly I cut out. The base ring to which the bee is welded is also made of brass. I proceeded with the work while reviewing the techniques I had learned so far.

切り出した蜂とトンボです。蜂を溶接する土台のリングも真鍮で作ります。これまで習った技法を復習しながら制作を進めました。

The base of the bee ring is ready. The brass sheet was cut out long and thin, heated to make it easier to process, and then struck directly with a hammer to create the pattern. When I told the teacher about the design I wanted to make, she showed me the best way to realize it.

蜂の指輪の土台ができました。細長く切り出した真鍮の板を熱して加工しやすくし、金槌で直接何度も叩いて模様をつけました。自分の作りたいデザインを先生に伝えると、そのデザインを実現するのに適した方法を教えてくださいました。

A view of the bee body welded to the base of the ring. During the process, the surface color of the brass is different. When polished and finished at the end, it becomes a shiny golden color. Perhaps because I got used to it and was careless, I cut my finger a little while working on the thread saw.

指輪の土台に蜂の胴体を溶接した様子。途中の段階では、真鍮の表面の色が異なります。最後に磨いて仕上げる際に、金色のピカピカになります。慣れてきて油断していたせいか、糸鋸作業中に指を少し切ってしまいました。

The bee and dragonfly rings were completed in the last class. The bee ring is divided into a body and wings, and when worn as a double ring, it takes the shape of a flapping bee.

最後の授業で、ハチとトンボの指輪が完成しました。ハチの指輪は胴体と羽に分かれていて、2連リングとしてつけると、羽ばたいているハチの形になります。

In one month of jewelry making classes, I was able to make a ring, a pendant top, and earrings. It went by really fast and I wanted to do more, but it was a good opportunity for me to continue learning after I returned to my country. I am filled with gratitude to Ms. Daniele and the interpreters!

1ヶ月のジュエリーメイキングの授業で指輪、ペンダントトップ、ピアスなどを作ることができました。本当にあっという間で、もっとやりたいという気持ちでしたが、帰国してからも学び続けたいと思える良いきっかけになりました。ダニエレ先生や通訳さんに感謝でいっぱいです！

The last class of jewelry design. We learned the basics about the cut, color, clarity, and size of diamonds used in jewelry, and how to draw a standard cut. I had only 4 classes, but I learned a lot from the 3-views of jewelry design, how to draw in black and white with a 3D effect, how to add color, how to draw cut stones, and much more. I would like to thank Ms. Monica for her kind and careful teaching!

ジュエリーデザインの最後の授業。ジュエリーに使用するダイヤモンドのカット・色・透明度・大きさなどについての基本を教えてもらい、スタンダードなカットを描く方法について学びました。私はたった4回の授業でしたが、ジュエリーデザインの3面図から、白黒での立体感のある描き方、色の付け方、カットストーンの描き方など、多くのことを教わりました。優しく丁寧に教えてくださったモニカ先生に感謝です！

It was just around the time of Easter, so we had pigeon cake (Colomba). During this time of the year, there were egg-shaped chocolates, pigeon cakes, rabbit goods, etc. sold all over town, and the mood was very festive. It was nice to be able to experience a culture that we don’t have in Japan.

ちょうどイースタ―の時期だったので、ハトのケーキをいただきました。この時期は、街中のあちこちでエッグ形のチョコレートや、ハトのケーキ、ウサギグッズなどが売られていて、お祭りムードでした。日本にはない文化に触れることができて嬉しかったです。

During the last week, I actively went around places in Florence that I had not been to yet. Piazzale Michelangelo, located a little bit away from the center of the city and up a hill, had the best view. It is beautiful during the day, but the sunset is especially beautiful, and in the evening it was full of people watching the sunset. When the sun went down, the city was lit up and the lights reflected off the river, making for a very beautiful sight.

最後の週は、フィレンツェの街でまだ行ったことがなかった場所を積極的に回りました。中心地から少し離れて坂道を登ったところにあるミケランジェロ広場は、眺めが最高でした。日中も綺麗ですが、夕陽が特に美しく、夕方には夕陽を見る人々でいっぱいでした。日が沈むと街に灯りがつき、灯りが川に反射してとても美しい景色でした。

When I left Florence, my roommate gave me some chocolates from Venchi. I was sad to say goodbye to my roommate because we spent the most time together, cooking together, going to school, eating gelato after school, etc. One month was short, but it was fun and full of life.

フィレンツェから出発する際にルームメイトがVenchiのチョコレートをくれました。ルームメイトとは一緒にご飯を作ったり、登校したり、放課後ジェラートを食べに行ったりと、一番長い時間を過ごしたので、お別れするのが寂しかったです。1ヶ月は短かったですが、楽しく、充実した日々でした。
