🇺🇸 My name is Risako, a fourth-year university student. I'm majoring in graphic design and programming. I have always been interested in jewelry, and since I am working as a salesperson at a jewelry shop, I applied for this course. Even in Japan, I learned a little bit about gem identification and jewelry design at a vocational school. However, this is my first experience with Italian jewelry making.

Jewelry Making Summer Course (n2)

🇺🇸 This week as well, I took four classes: Jewelry Making, Engraving, Stone Setting, and Jewelry Design. In the jewelry making class, we were able to finish making the leaf pendant in the first class this week, so on the second day we were finally able to start making the original ring. I started with the frame where the stone sits on top of the ring. Next, in our Engraving class, this week we were able to practice straight lines and enter curves. Curves were much more difficult than straight lines, but after practicing at home a few times, I felt like I was gradually getting the feel of moving the base instead of my hands. In the Stone Setting class, I felt that I had improved my blade sharpening work over the past week, but in reality, I was still not good enough, and I spent most of my time practicing sharpening the blade this week as well. However, compared to last week, I was able to get a clearer picture of where I was failing, so I will continue to practice more. In the Jewelry Design class this week, the teacher brought Tiffany & Co. and Bulgari catalogs and listened to detailed explanations about the brands and their jewelry lines while looking at them. I was able to learn about the secret story of the birth of jewelry that I had been vaguely familiar with and its particularly noteworthy features, and I learned a lot. Also, outside of school, I spent the weekend this week traveling to Rome for two days and one night with a friend. On the first day, we went to the Colosseum, the Vatican Museums in Vatican City, the Sistine Chapel, and St. On the second day, we headed to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, and Plaza de España, enjoying sightseeing and shopping at the shops lining the streets. I am very happy because I was able to buy cute accessories and vintage jewelry. I’ll do my best again next week.

🇯🇵 今週も、先週と同じく、Jewelry Making(ジュエリーメイキング)、Engraving(彫り)、Stone Setting(石留め)、Jewelry Design(ジュエリーデザイン)の四つの授業を受講しました。

🇺🇸 The Leaf Pendant Top I’ve been making since last week. In the jewelry making class, it ends when the stem is attached. After this, I carved the veins of the leaves in carving class.

🇺🇸 It looks we are making a part to hold the stone of the ring. A base shape is created by cutting a silver plate into strips with a jigsaw, rolling them, and welding them end to end.

🇺🇸 Cutting a silver plate with a jigsaw. If you don’t hold the saw perpendicular to the board, the thread will break quickly.

🇺🇸 It looks like the part where the stone of the ring is fixed is roughly cut. Although the roughness still remains, the atmosphere of a ring is gradually emerging.

🇺🇸 Florentine carving practiced at home. Curves are jerky, straight lines stick out too much, and more practice is needed.

🇺🇸 A photo of the Colosseum I took on my trip to Rome. It was very powerful when I saw it up close, but I felt it was a little smaller than I had imagined.

🇺🇸 Accessories bought in Rome. I bought a fairy brooch and a butterfly ring at a small shop, and a heart pendant at a vintage shop. The pendant top is made of enamel and is reversible, and the back is also very cute.
