I have started a course in interior design. This is my first time to learn about interior design, but I think it is valuable to learn something practical from an experienced teacher.

インテリアデザインのコースが始まりました。私はインテリアについて学ぶのは初めてですが、経験豊富な先生から実践的なことを学べるのは貴重だと思います。

Here is a table about dimensions. The main dimensions used in interior design were 1:10, 1:20, 1:25, and 1:50.

こちらは寸法についての表です。インテリアデザインに使用される寸法は主に1:10、1:20、1:25、1:50とのことでした。

Here is an explanation of Italian furniture sizes. For example, a bathtub is 70cm on the short side and 160cm-180cm on the long side.

こちらはイタリアの家具のサイズについての説明です。例えばバスタブは短辺70cm、長辺160cm〜180cmです。

The furniture is placed on the drawing of the apartment prepared by the teacher. We are a family of four, a couple and two daughters. This is the one I initially created.

先生が用意したアパートの図面に家具を配置します。夫婦と娘2人の4人家族という設定です。こちらは私が当初作成したものです。

I will brush up the plan by consulting with the teacher. I was taught that the washbasin should be right in front of the door so that you can wash your hands as soon as you open the door.

先生と相談しながらブラッシュアップしていきます。洗面所はドアを開けてすぐに手が洗えるように洗面台が目の前にあるのが良いと教わりました。

The perspective drawing that the doctor drew smoothly in response to my request that the couple’s bedroom should be able to watch a movie on the monitor while sipping a glass of wine.

夫婦の寝室はワインを飲みながらモニターで映画が観られるようにしたいという私の要望に、先生がサラサラと描いた透視画。

Here is the drawing after the improvement. One thing he pointed out to me was that if the children are small, it would be safer to have the couple’s bedroom and the children’s room next to each other, so it would be better to reverse the position of the husband’s work area and the children’s room.

こちらが改善後の図面です。一つ指摘されたことは、子どもが小さい場合は、夫婦の寝室と子ども部屋は隣同士にしたほうが安心なので、夫の仕事場と子ども部屋の位置を反対にしたほうが良いとのことでした。

We drew a cross-section of the living room (upper right). The diagram about the roof structure drawn by the doctor (left, bottom right). He explained many things, such as the underfloor is higher than the ground to prevent rainwater from entering, the slope of the roof is 30 degrees, and the shape behind the object is indicated by a thin solid line.

リビングの断面図(右上)を描きました。先生が描いた屋根の構造についての図(左、右下)。床下は雨水の侵入を防ぐために地面より高い位置にありますとか、屋根の傾きは30度ですとか、対象物の奥にある形状は細い実線で示しますとか、色々と説明を受けました。

We are shown many examples of actual construction by the professor to help us visualize the project.

実際に先生が施工した例を沢山見せていただいてイメージを膨らませます。

In the class, we have an interpreter explain the technical terms in Italian and Japanese. However, it is not so easy to absorb the dense content in a short period of time, so I went back to my apartment and reorganized my notes.

クラスではイタリア語で出てくる専門用語を、通訳さんに日本語で説明してもらいます。ただ、密度の濃い内容を短期間で吸収しようと思ったらそう簡単ではないので、アパートに帰ってノートをまとめ直しました。
