I tried many different dishes, but this fried dish called coccoli was the most simple and tasty. I have been going there several times since my interpreter told me that it is sold at a deep fryer near the station.

いろんな料理を食べてみたけどこのコッコリという揚げ物料理が一番素朴で美味しかった。通訳さんに駅近くの揚げ物やさんで売られていると聞いてから何回か通っているくらい、このコッコリは美味しい。

I thought I had not eaten any fish dishes since I came here, and when I said so to my roommate, she said, “Let’s cook it,” and we went to the supermarket together to buy salmon. I thought it was more expensive than in Japan, but it was a lot cheaper than eating it in restaurants, so I guess it turned out OK. I put butter on it, seasoned it with salt and pepper, and cooked it on the grill.

The amount of cheese sold in supermarkets is so different from that in Japan that I always look at it. There are so many different kinds and for so many different purposes that I try to buy a different kind every time.

スーパーの量が日本と桁違いでいつも見入ってしまう。いろんな種類でいろんな用途があって、毎回違う種類を買うようにしている。

My interpreter told me that it is like a kiosk in Japan. They don’t have newspaper delivery in Italy, so they get their newspapers here. It is true that I have never seen a newspaper in the mailbox of my apartment.

日本のキオスクみたいなものだと通訳さんに教えてもらった。イタリアでは新聞配達がないのでここで新聞を調達しているそう。確かにアパートのポストに新聞が入っているのを見たことがない。

Real bistecca from a Tuscan restaurant! It was amazingly powerful. I could understand why everyone said it was delicious, and I could also understand why the interpreter said it was a must before leaving Florence. The five of us ate it together, but we couldn’t finish it, so we took it out and enjoyed it at home the next day.

トスカーナレストランで食べた本物のビステッカ！大迫力でびっくりした。みんなが美味しいという理由もわかったし、通訳さんも帰る前に是非と言っていた理由もわかるほどすごく満足した。五人で食べたけど、食べきれなくてテイクアウトして次の日も家で楽しんだ。

This was the first time I painted with pastels in a painting course. I chose this painting by Vermeer, which I had always wanted to copy someday. The paper on which you paint with pastels is very important, because if the material is rough, pastel dust will get into it and it will be difficult to erase it when you make a mistake, so he learned to choose a paper with the softest possible texture. I found that the way of painting by drawing and blotting out the colors suited me better than the way of acrylics, where the colors come out more firmly, and it was a lot of fun.

絵画コースで初めてパステルを使って絵を描いた。題材はずっと決めていていつか模写したいと思っていたフェルメールのこの絵画にした。パステルは描く紙から重要で、材質がザラザラしているとパステルの粉が入り込んでミスした時に消すのが大変なので、なるべくソフトな肌触りの紙を選ぶ事を知った。描いてはぼかしていく描き方はアクリルのしっかり色が出る感じより私に合っていて、すごく楽しかった。

I had always wanted to go inside the Cathedral, which I always go to school, but I had time and the line was empty, so I went in. The exterior of the cathedral was a symbol of Florence, but seeing the inside of the large cupola made it look even more fascinating.

いつも通学している大聖堂だったけど、ずっと中に入りたいと思っていて時間があったのと列が空いていたので入った。フィレンツェを象徴する外観が特徴だったが、大きなクーポラの内側を見たことでより一層魅力的に見えた。

This is one of my favorite places and has become more historical since I visited it on my art visit. With cafes always crowded with people, a carousel popular with families, and a shopping mall nearby, I realized that the square has always been a part of people’s lives.

私の大好きな場所でアートビジットでも訪れてからより歴史を感じる場所になった。いつも多くの人で賑わうカフェやファミリーに人気のメリーゴーランド、近くにショッピングモールと、今も昔も人の生活に寄り添った広場だと実感した。

The reason I made it with my roommate was that I had gone to eat bistecca at a restaurant before and it was surprisingly expensive, so my friend said she would try to make it at home and went to the supermarket to buy beef on the same day. I went to the supermarket to buy some beef and she made it the way she liked it, from the seasoning to the seasoning, and it was delicious.

ルームメイトの子と一緒に作ったきっかけが、前にレストランでビステッカを食べにいくとびっくり高くて、その時に友達が家で作ってみるよと言ってその足でスーパーでビーフを買いに行った。下味から味付けからその子好みで作ってくれて食べてみるととても美味しかった。

The Museum of Modern Art was one of the places I wanted to visit in Florence. It was a good time of the day when not many people were there, so we were able to see more of the museum than the Accademia or the Uffizi. It took me a lot of time to choose from a wide variety of goods.

フィレンツェで行きたかったところの一つだった現代美術館。あまり人がいなかった時間帯だったのか、アカデミアやウフィッツィよりのんびりしっかりみる事ができた。グッズも充実していて選ぶのにだいぶ時間がかかってしまった。
