New city
During my holidays, I went to Rome with a Mexican friend. He was studying in Milan but we planned to spend the Christmas together because for us those days are very important. We stayed in an apartment with an Italian family so I could know the tradition for Christmas day in Italy.

Visitando una nueva ciudad
Durante mis vacaciones fui a Roma a pasar navidad con un amigo mexicano. Él se encontraba estudiando en Milán por lo que nos pusimos de acuerdo en pasar juntos estas fechas que en nuestras costumbres son familiares. Nos hospedamos en un departamento con una familia italiana por lo que pudimos conocer la tradición del 25 de diciembre al estilo Romano.

Michelangelo in Rome
On December 24th we spent the day in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican where you can watch a sculpture made by Michelangelo; the name of this sculpture is the Pietà and as same as David is a masterpiece, the most amazing job is in the texture and shows a real movement. This makes me appreciate more the work of Michelangelo and fall in love with his work. It was nice to find his work in Rome.

Michelangelo en Roma
En día 24 fuimos a visitar la Basílica de San Pedro en el Vaticano donde se puede contemplar una de las esculturas de Michelangelo, La Piedad. Esta escultura al igual que el David es una obra maestra, se puede apreciar el trabajo en la tela, como la interpreta y lo bien que está realizado. Esto hace que cada vez me guste más el trabajo de Michelangelo a pesar que todavía me quedan trabajos de él que observar. Fue agradable poder seguir disfrutando de él en Roma.

Castle Sant’Angelo
From the top of the castle Sant’Angelo you can see the downtown of Rome. This castle was a refuge that was connected with the Vatican and it was made so that the Pope could run away and be saved. The story says that one day the archangel Michael appeared on the roof with his swore in flames and this represented the end of the plague in Rome.

Castello de San Ángel
Desde el Castello de San Ángel se puede contemplar Roma centro. Este Castello fue en su tiempo un refugio que se conectaba con el Vaticano y servía para en casos en los que el Vaticano fuera atacado, el papa pudiera huir y estar a salvo. Cuenta la leyenda que en este Castillo una noche se apareció el arcángel Miguel con una espada en llamas y esto significaba el fin de la peste en Roma. La vista ahí en realmente hermosa y se puede sentir esa magia que caracteriza a Roma.

Wishing Merry Christmas
On Christmas Eve we went to the Fontana di Trevi to receive the 25th and as the tradition, we threw a coin into the water for making a wish. After the wish we went to a church to listen the Christmas mess at 12 o’clock like the Italian tradition. It was a holly night, full of light and even that we were so far from home, and we felt in company.

Deseando una Feliz Navidad
El 24 por la noche a vísperas de Navidad fuimos a esperar las doce de la madrugada en la Fontana de Trevi, ahí como es tradición lanzamos una moneda al agua pidiendo una deseo y después fuimos a escuchar la misa de las 12 de la noche de Navidad, ésta siendo una tradición Italiana. Fue una noche muy espiritual y llena de luz, a pesar de estar lejos de casa fue lindo tener una navidad diferente ser parte de una nueva experiencia y tradición.

Blessing from the pope
On December 25th we went to the Vatican to listen the Pope’s blessing that he always gives in Christmas day. We could see the Pope in the Piazza San Pietro and received his blessing. This was a new experience because not every year you can be blessed from the Pope. After this we walked around the city. I think that’s the best way to know a place.

Bendición del Papa
El 25 por la mañana el Papa dice el Angelus, que es una bendición por el día de navidad. Pudimos ver al papa salir a la Plaza de San Pedro y dar la bendición. Fue así como recibimos el día de Navidad. Después anduvimos por las calles de Roma.

History
One of the places that definitely you have to visit in Rome is the Colosseum. It’s one of the most famous ruins in the world but also it has a lot of history. In the time of the Roman Empire the Colosseum was the place where the battles between gladiators and animals were done. This place is amazing, you can imagine how was in those time because the whole structure still keeps how it was.

Historia
Uno de los lugares que no pueden faltar por visitar estando en Roma es el Coliseo ya que es una de las ruinas que tiene Roma llena de historia. Se remonta hasta el imperio romano donde el coliseo era el lugar en el que se llevaban a cabo las peleas de los gladiadores con animales. Es muy interesante contemplar este lugar ya que tiene tanta historia y se sigue conservando gran parte de cómo fueron las ruinas en aquellos tiempos.

More ruins, more history
In the Colosseum zone you can appreciate the ruins of the ancient Acropolis at the time of the Roman Empire. There are many architectural structures that were different important places such Acropolis in those time. It is very interesting to see the places that show what is the European history.

Más ruinas, Más historia
En la zona del coliseo, se encuentran ruinas de la antigua acrópolis en el tiempo del imperio romano. Se pueden observar diferentes estructuras arquitectónicas de lo que fueron es su tiempos lugares importantes en dicha acrópolis. Es muy interesante ver lo que es la historia de Europa ya que toda mi vida he visto a Europa como el viejo mundo, es una experiencia única contemplar la historia del mundo a lo largo de los años.

In the city of love
Going back to Florence I met two girls from South America, they were traveling around Italy. They invited me to spend the New Year’s Eve with them in Venice so I decided to go to Venice with them. It was a new experience because you never know the good relationships you can build with people traveling around the world.

En la ciudad del amor
De regreso a Florencia en mi viaje a Roma, me toco conocer a dos jóvenes latinas que estaban viajando por Italia y se disponían a pasar año nuevo en Venecia la ciudad del amor, ellas me hicieron la invitación y acepte conocer la ciudad del amor y además conocer a esas dos personas que el viaje siempre te trae.

New Year
Venice is full of romantic stories that have been told around the world. In this city you can appreciate the romantic style, but in a different way that I thought. Spend the New Year’s eve in this city it was a pleasure because I could feel the magic of the city and the energy to start a new year with a different perspective, inspiration and motivation about many things in life.

Año nuevo
Venecia está llena de historia románticas que se han dicho a lo largo de la historia principalmente por el cine estadounidense, sin embargo conocer esta ciudad realmente es una oportunidad única, ya que si se puede apreciar un ambiente romántico pero no como uno siempre ha creído. Pasar año nuevo en esta ciudad llena de energía y magia fue perfecta para comenzar un año llena de motivación, inspiración y ver las cosas desde una perspectiva diferente.

Welcome home
After the travel, I passed the night walking around Florence, and when I was in Ponte Vecchio I could feel be in home. You have this feeling when; you miss something so much but you are far away from it, you pass longer time and you’ll start to feel the place you live now like your own home. At that moment I watched this view (the photo) and I felt in home; I felt so glad to be back here, and there was nothing more comfortable like my home in this city and I knew Florence is my favorite city.

Bienvenida a casa
Después del viaje anduve por la ciudad paseando de noche y fue esta vista la que me hizo sentir en casa. Esa sensación cuando llegas a un lugar ya conocido y al que te sientes parte de. Después de los lugares que conocí llegar y ver el ponte vechio para mi represento llegar a casa, poder respirar profundamente y sentir que soy bienvenida en esta hermosa ciudad pues a pesar de lo que he visto sigue siendo mi Florencia mi favorita.
