After briefly studying Fashion Design at the Arts Institute in Miami, Christine came to Florence to study shoe design/making which was her real passion. At Accademia Riaci, she began her Shoe Design course with Professor Andrea Roth, a one-time designer for the Ferragamo shoe brand. In the design course, Christine was taught all of the design elements for creating beautiful footwear. She also learned how to balance creativity with technical skills. Upon completion of the design course, she was excited to move on to Shoe Making which is taught by Mr. Angelo.

Student created a shoe design using satin laces. In order to best envision how to position the laces on the shoe, a few sketches were made. Below are two examples.

Professor Andrea using a last (mold) to determine how the laces of the shoe should be positioned. Once we agreed on the positioning, the necessary changes were made to the design/sketch.

Professor and student, working late, to understand a complex design. In the end, a solution was found which is always rewarding.

A replica of Michelangelo’s David located at Piazzale Michelangelo, Florence. Watching the sunset from this location is breathtaking.
